Body Art, as defined in NEHA’s Body Art Model Code, means body piercing, tattooing, branding, scarification, or permanent cosmetics. Environmental health professionals inspect and regulate body art establishments.

Body Art Facility Inspector Training
Preconference training held at the 2023 Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition

The introductory-level course focuses on the fundamentals of body art facility inspection. It includes a body art facility inspection simulation, in-person equipment demonstrations. job-aids, resources, and more! Participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to confidently inspect a body art facility. Course instructors are experienced body art facility inspectors and industry professionals. The course covers public health risks, communication, infection control, inspection procedures and requirements, equipment review, and more!
Body Art Needs Assessment ResultsIn 2021, we conducted a nationwide survey to assess the needs of the workforce related to body art facility inspections. This needs assessment examined attitudes, skills, and knowledge related to inspection standards, best practices, and resources. The information from this needs assessment can be utilized to identify priorities that guide training and resource development for environmental health professionals responsible for ensuring safe body art practices that protect public health are implemented and followed.
