Vectors & Pests
We work to improve capacity to identify and understand emerging vectors found in the United States.
May is Lyme Awareness Month
Many tick species in the United States (U.S.) can transmit pathogens that cause diseases like Lyme disease, which is contractable by pets, livestock, and humans. In 2004, the number of human Lyme disease cases reported was 20,000. Today, approximately 300,000 cases are reported each year. There are more than 90 species of ticks in the U.S.; most tick-borne diseases are spread by hard ticks.
