Every Child Deserves a Head Start

Feb 21, 2019
David Dyjack, DrPH, CIH

This month's column provides a look at the work NEHA is actively doing to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's effort to rebuild the environmental health workforce in the U.S. Virgin Islands. NEHA recently received an award from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry to lead efforts in the Choose Safe Places for Early Care and Education initiative, with a primary emphasis in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. To that end, NEHA has contracted with the Region II Head Start Association to assist us in advancing that effort with the aim to ensure that every child reaches their full potential by being provided healthy, safe, and secure conditions during their youth. Guest columnist Andrew Roszak from the Institute for Childhood Preparedness and the principal contractor to Region II Head Start discusses the work being done in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to build resilience in the area.
