AEC Preconference Offerings

Registration is required for all preconference sessions, regardless of cost. Preconference registration can be added to an attendees registration while registering for the main conference or separately using the registration form.

Body Art

Body Art Facility Inspector Training  

Sunday, July 30 and Monday, July 31   
8 am – 4 pm daily   
Fee: $150 member/$200 non-member

The introductory-level course focuses on the fundamentals of body art facility inspection. It includes a body art facility inspection simulation, in-person equipment demonstrations. job-aids, resources, and more! Participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to confidently inspect a body art facility. Course instructors are experienced body art facility inspectors and industry professionals. The course covers public health risks, communication, infection control, inspection procedures and requirements, equipment review, and more!

Climate for Health Ambassador Training

We are partnering with Climate for Health, a program of ecoAmerica, to offer this training to help build the capacity of environmental health professionals to be involved in their local climate and health conversation. The Climate for Health Ambassador Training will equip participants with knowledge, hands on experience, and resources to speak and act confidently on climate change and solutions. Attendees of this session can join the Climate for Health Ambassador Debrief on Monday, July 31 from 2 – 4 pm.

For attendees who have completed or started the Climate for Health Ambassador Training can participate in an in-person debrief and review. The 90-minute session focuses on strengthening communication skills using the research-based messaging strategies developed by Climate for Health. Participants will review opportunities for engagement on climate and network with peers committed to climate action.

When you walk away from an inspection or audit do you have assurances owners, operators, and employees have a greater understanding of environmental health and how to partner in protection of their community? This session will examine why communication in environmental health is important to positive inspection outcomes.

Credentials

Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian Credential Review Course

Saturday, July 29 – Monday, July 31  
8 am – 5 pm Saturday and Sunday, 8 am – 12 pm Monday

This two-and-a-half-day refresher course is designed to enhance your preparation for the NEHA Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS) credential exam. Participants are expected to have a solid foundation of environmental health knowledge and training equal to the eligibility requirements to sit for the REHS/RS credential exam. This course alone is not enough to pass the REHS/RS credential exam. The class will cover exam content areas as described on our website. The REHS/RS Study Guide is included in this review course.  

An additional application and fee are required to take any credential exam. There will be the opportunity to take the paper exam onsite at the AEC. Apply online to take the REHS/RS exam. The deadline to apply to take the paper exam was June 16. 

Certified Professional - Food Safety Credential Review Course

Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30

This two-day refresher course is designed to enhance your preparation for the NEHA Certified Professional - Food Safety (CP-FS) credential exam. Participants are expected to have prior food safety knowledge and training equal to the eligibility requirements to sit for the CP-FS exam. The course will cover exam content areas as described on our website. The instructor will be available during and after the course for questions. The course includes the CP-FS Study Package (CP-FS manual and CP-FS flash cards).  

There will be the opportunity to take the paper exam onsite at the AEC. Apply online to take the CP-FS exam. The deadline to apply to take the paper exam was June 16.

NEHA and FDA National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards Self-Assessment and Verification Audit Workshop

Saturday, July 29 – Monday, July 31

This workshop is designed to provide participants with an overview of the National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards criteria and an in-depth understanding of the self-assessment and verification audit processes, worksheets, and forms. Land Reuse

Environmental Health and Land Reuse Immersion Training

Saturday, July 29 – Monday, July 31

This interactive two-and-a-half day training aims to increase the skills of the environmental health workforce to engage in land reuse and redevelopment. It takes a deeper dive into our original "EHLR Basic" training's first three modules of community engagement, evaluation, and risk communication. Participants will earn 20 CEs for completing the training.

Water Quality

Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code: Certified Public Health Pool Inspector

This new, full day Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code certification course is designed just for public health officials. Based on the CDC's Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC), the course provides the information needed to confidently inspect commercial pools. This is a pilot course and participants will be able to provide input on finalizing the course.

Private Water Network: Building Capacity through Partnerships and Collaboration for Safer Private Wells

This workshop will feature a combination of presentations and interactive sessions on innovative implementation, challenges, best practices, and evaluation of partnership and collaboration strategies for private wells and other small drinking water systems. Three NEHA continuing education credits are available for participants who complete the workshop.
